In 2016, the IATA Financial Committee (now Industry Financial Advisory Council) identified that becoming a High Performing Finance Organization (HIPO) is key to airlines achieving sustained financial health.

The HIPO Program, launched in 2018, consists of 4 streams and supports participating airlines in their journey to become High Performing Finance Organizations. Current activities include the Finance Academy, the Airline Finance Professionals Community and the Airline Finance Internship Program.

 

The Finance function plays an integral role in fostering financial health within the airline. For Finance to be able to assume this critical role, it needs to embark on a journey that will take it from transactional management to value management. This will be realized through business partnering, decision support, enterprise risk management and other activities. The HIPO program aims to help airlines effectively attract, develop and retain talent, and to build an industry community that fosters dialogue – thus equipping the Airline Finance function for its augmented role.

The IATA Airline Finance Professionals community on LinkedIn is an extension of IATA’s annual World Financial Symposium.
